Returning to the fold: Jessica Mason

Coming back to the firm where she qualified as an accountant 12 years previously, Jessica Mason FCCA, BSc (Hons), rejoined CRM as Commercial Manager on 1 September 2020.

Jessica first began her accountancy career at CRM in 2002 at the tender age of 17. She has since grown her career around Oxfordshire and has come home to roost just a couple of miles from her home in Kidlington.

“It was time to focus more on my work-life balance and my family, which are values that CRM supports, so I was delighted to walk through the door and feel at home with colleagues here, some of whom were present 18 years ago when I first joined!” said Jessica.

“I really enjoy the human side of accountancy – building a strong relationship with clients, holding their hands through some tricky processes and helping them to achieve their business goals. The Commercial Manager role is perfect for that because I’ll be keeping an eye on our internal client care procedures, making sure that we’re offering the very best service to our clients.

“I’m looking forward to representing CRM at networking events and of course, carrying out the ‘regular’ accountancy tasks. I particularly enjoy working with clients in the property and construction sector.”

Jessica also volunteers her time and accountancy skills to manage the financial records for the local Robin Preschool in Kidlington. “Both my children have attended this preschool and I am also a former pupil from many years ago, so I feel a real connection with the place!” Jessica explained. “Thanks to the CRM policy of offering three working hours per month to each staff member for volunteering, I am able to provide much needed support to the preschool – another benefit to rejoining my first employer.”

With two small children, free time is at a premium for Jessica but she likes to run (she completed the Oxford Half Marathon in 2019); spending time in the park and on bike rides with her family and catching up with friends.

Starting a new job during the pandemic is not ideal but Jessica has welcomed the way CRM managed the process. “We operate a rota system so that there are limited staff in the office on any given day. Living so close to the office, it actually suits me to be in most days, I prefer the office space for working and I’ve enjoyed meeting my teammates in small groups. We also have a Friday quiz so I’ve been able to get to know colleagues socially online.”

CRM Managing Director, Tony Hobbs was delighted to welcome Jessica back into the CRM fold. He said: “Having supported Jessica through her accountancy qualifications and degree all those years ago, we knew we’d taken on someone with great people skills and a firm foundation of many years in practice. It’s wonderful to draw on Jessica’s experience in the property sector and her passion for customer care, she’s already proving to be a great re-addition to the CRM team.”
