CRM represented at Number 10

We were delighted that our Commercial Director, Mike Foster, was asked to represent CRM and Entrepreneurship at Number 10 Downing Street.

Enterprise Nation invited a group of business owners and ambassadors to meet with the Prime Minister’s business adviser to discuss Entrepreneurism and the Budget.

The visit coincided with this week being a celebration of Entrepreneurship ‘Global Entrepreneurship Week’.

Before joining CRM last year, Mike had built a reputation for supporting Entrepreneurs to start, develop and grow their own business. Since joining CRM he has supported clients through our Business Improvement Programme and various workshops.

Mike said “The topic of conversation was varied, passionate and in the main positive. It was a pleasure to have been invited to attend”

The topic of conversation was wide with the discussion covering topics such as:

  • Tax rates for SMEs vs corporates.
  • VAT: the threshold and 20% rate.
  • Support for exporting: tax incentive and funding support.
  • Loans for small business.
  • Business advice from a government source.
  • Payment terms compliance.
  • Investment in trainee schemes.

Mike added “It was also good to meet Daniel Harrison from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and discuss the role of the trusted adviser and hear that accountants are still considered the primary source. In discussion, Daniel highlighted the three considerations for a small business who may need advice and support: When do I need the advice? Who can I trust? What is a sensible charge for my investment? Hopefully at CRM we are helping those business owners that want to combine advice with their accountancy support”
Since launching in 2005, Enterprise Nation has helped thousands of people start and grow their own successful business. They are the UK’s most active small business community and offer a voice to government for members too. You can read more at https://www.enterprisenation.com/
